60 Girl Scouts had a full day of activities; golf clinic, ropes challenge course, working on requirements for the Adventure Sports badge and games. The day was set up to rotate through golf sessions in 4 one and a half hour clinics. While some girls were learning golf, others were using the ropes course.
Golf training included mini swing (pitch), full swing and putting. The high school recreation field was turned into a driving range with hitting stations, nets and targets. After swing training, the new golfers played mock golf holes set up on the field. What a fun time, what a wonderful learning experience for myself and the young golfers. The smiles, the many high 5's of triumphant golf shots, fabulous finish positions of full swing training were a companion to laughter and the frustrating "wow, I was so close to hitting that one!" were all part of the day. The hugs goodbye and the thank you's and the your welcome's were exchanged by the girls and by myself and my teaching staff with heart. The day ended with the badge/patch handout, the Girl Scout circle and snacks. Thanks goes to Laura Nagaran-McCarthy for organizing the day, to Dee Dee Dodd, and all the wonderful Troop Leaders along with Mom's, Dad's and Grandma's! Visiting The Navajo Nation at Kayenta, AZ is one thevof highlights of Girl Scout Golf. We were overwhelmed at the beauty of the country and the spacious beauty of Monument Valley. The girls were wonderful and so much fun! It was a lovely day of golf. |
