Are your Golf Instruction Books Suitable for You?

Just as you make selections of appropriate golf equipment; select your instruction material with care.

Hi folks, Penny here.

I have played this game since I was 13 and have come to understand that I am a continual student, ever learning and striving to improve and to maintain my golf skills.  With 2 LPGA tournament victories, I was ranked # 10 in the world 1978 and in 1986 I was the #1 Ping player.  Learning is a continual process.

Teaching golf and writing material to aid my teaching requires contemplating the perspective of the person being taught.  Take the beginner for instance; right up front . . I communicate that it's ok to miss the ball; you are suppose to miss the ball.

If you know me, you are aware that I am big into communication.  I want everyone to learn and to have fun while they learn.  I am compelled to write golf instruction, to video golf instruction.  I feel compelled to create avenues to impart this mystery of the golf swing!

I would appreciate it and I know they will too.

Email me; I'd love to hear from you.

People who play golf come in a variety of sizes and ages.  Then it makes sense that golfers too are a variety of sizes and ages with their abilities in a variety of skill levels.

A junior golfer, of say 10 or 11 years of age, may have a skill level beyond that of the adult beginner.  Ability to play the game has little to do with age or height.

Get the picture? With maturity of the mind comes different methods of instruction and learning. Physical changes in our bodies affects our methods of learning also.  Senior golfers have a whole different set of challenges to maintain their golf swing.

You must choose your instruction material with care; taking into consideration your stage of development in the game.  Are you a beginner, have you played competitively? Also take evaluate how you learn.  Are you a visual learner?  Are you able to read and visualize?  Do you digest written word into action?  With proper instructional material, junior golfers are able to read and put into action what they read; beginners are able to comprehend and golfers wanting to take their skill to the next level strive to put into action more complex concepts.

My golf instruction books vary.

  • For the young mind, the optimal learning curve is to keep it simple and consistent.

  • For the adult person learning as a beginner, the game and the people who play it can present an intimidating curve.

  • The experienced player is looking for a much deeper curve of understanding and more detail in learning about the golf swing.

When I began to communicate golf to the minds and bodies of young people, my junior golfers; I junior golf instruction bookknew my job was to make it fun. That's first things first - have fun, which is my nature. And that young junior golfers had to experience being successful.  For my students to be successful, my task was to see the complexity of golf and to create a way to communicate that simply; in very simple ways and words.

After two years of getting simple, this instruction book came about.  You will find golf equipment fundamentals,  drawings for posture (which we call ready position), the explanations of aiming to target, and exercises for mental golf training.

Most importantly the golf swing is presented in pure simple terms for the young mind.  Full swing, pitch, chip, putt, bunker -- all of the swings presented with  related, consistent training words and phrases.  A glossary of words for you and your junior golfer to communicate for simple training.

This junior golf book "places" a junior golfer into positions, training is optimized by hands-on; getting the junior and letting them feel the positions.

You'll find etiquette illustrated; simple non-gender figures to show body positions in the golf swing.

My book encourages the adult and the junior to work together as a team to learn.  And always,
always  . . .  have
FUN !

Beginners, you have permission to dub, miss and flub away to your heart’s content.  It is a good golf instruction plan.  Golf wisdom comes from the journey of “hit and miss” and “oh! so close.”

Beginner golfers are on a journey.  One obstacle of that journey is finding that this game intimidating.   The skill is intimidating as well as other golfers, the golf course, the rules, the etiquette. My beginner book addresses this issue of being intimidated along with solid golf training techniques.

Beginning means literally to start; and that is learning a little bit at a time, one thing at a time, one lesson at a time.  Progress, not perfection.  The process involves making mistakes.

First in my book you will find:

  • What the average new golfer will experience
  • Playing golf with your sweetie

These are true-to-life situations a new golfer will encounter.  Countless fellow golfers will want to "help" you with your game which results in great frustration for the beginner golfer when the "help" is in direct conflict with your golf teacher.

I have an unshakable belief in the fundamentals of golf.  The mental game of golf is exciting to learn and challenging to the master.  As you combine the two games together, you will be amazed at how quickly your scores will be lowered.

You can become a confident and imaginative golfer.
